ORANGE — Work is under way for what will surely be a hilarious ending to its season at OCP.
The Orange Community Players will present its final production of the 2014-2015 season with “The Great American Trailer Park,” which is directed by Anne Lilyquist and assisted by John Gray Jr. and Joshua Scales. Showings are at 7:37 p.m., nightly, Thursday, April 16 through Saturday, April 18, and Thursday, April 23 through Saturday, April 25. Matinees will be offered at 2:37 p.m., Sunday, April 19, and Sunday, April 26. Tickets are $15 for general admission and $10 for students.
According to its official website, “The Great American Trailer Park Musical” began its journey as a series of staged readings and workshops, followed by a sold-out run at The New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF) in 2004, which led to the 2005 Off Broadway run produced by Jean Doumanian and Jeffrey Richards.
With the music and lyrics written by David Nehls and the book written by
Betsy Kelso, the show has toured the U.S. and the U.K., played Australia and has even been translated into French for a production in Montreal.
The two-act musical delves into the lives and relationships of tenants at the Armadillo Acres Trailer Park in Florida. The list of colorful characters includes Pippi the runaway stripper, Jeannine the anxiety-ridden resident and her husband, Norbert, who works a toll-booth.
The Orange Community Players venue, affectionately known as The Playhouse, is located at 708 W. Division St. in Orange. Call 409-882-9137 for reservations or visit www.orangecommunityplayers.com for more information.
