What's Happening Orange County Reviews The Dixie Swim Club

I slipped into the rehearsal of ”The Dixie Swim Club” at the Orange Community Players, Inc. playhouse the other night. They were having a lot of fun with it. There are some really funny lines in the script.

The show begins its two week run Feb. 12, 2015. Directed by Diana Hill, the cast includes: Kristen Campbell Angie McClelland, Tanya Guillotte, Codie Vasquez and Janet Bland. Keri Foreman is the understudy for all parts.

It’s the story of five college swim teammates that continued their friendship and get together each August at the same beach cabin to share their lives, butt into each other’s business and just let it all out.

The characters have five very different personalities with different perspectives on life and how it should be lived. They don’t mind giving the others their opinions and unsolicited advice.

Covering four of these eventful weekends, the script starts with them aged in their mid forties and ends in their early 70s. They go from life to death and everything in between including marriage and divorce. One of them is even a lawyer. It’s a wild rollercoaster ride of life, hurricanes included.

If you’ve ever had a girl’s night out, or enjoyed a girl’s weekend, you will be able to relate to this offering. It is a piece of most of our lives, for some, possibly a reflection of their entire lives.

Hill has tried to pay attention to details. Mike Louviere, official photographer for OCP, even followed the cast to the beach for some authentic publicity pics. The set looks like a beach cottage I would love to stay at, kudos to Jo Harris.

They are even serving up complementary wine before each performance which will bring the audience into the feel of the performance, helping them engage with the atmosphere. This Saturday, Valentine’s Day, they will be serving up sweet offerings during intermission, so join them for dessert.

The Dixie Swim Club starts tomorrow, Feb. 12, 2015. The curtain goes up at 7:37 p.m. Evening performances are Feb. 12-14 and Feb. 19-21, with a special matinee performance at 2:37 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 22. I hear the matinee is almost sold out, so if that is your preference, you better hurry.

You can buy tickets online at orangecommunityplayers.com or reserve your seat by calling 409-882 – 9137 and leave a message with your name, day you plan to attend and number in your party. Leave your phone number too, in case they sell out on the day you want to attend and they need to notify you.

The theater is located at 708 W. Division Ave., Orange, Texas. See you there!
